• The Reading Academy Foundation Course is an interactive on-line course designed as a research-based framework for a sixty hour school-based collaborative teacher learning experience to strengthen early reading instruction. The Course was developed as part of the federally funded New York State Reading for Results and Reading First initiatives. The State Education Department is now able to extend the Reading Academy Foundation Course to all New York State districts and schools.

District or school representatives interested in using the Reading Academy Foundation Course for professional development can review the Criteria & Guidelines for Course Access and submit the 2009-'10 Statement of Assurance. (Please note: districts/ schools currently involved in the Reading First initiative must ALSO submit the Statement of Assurance!)

The Benefits and Overview & Enrollment Steps documents provide additional information on the Course. Potential Issues & Explanations will assist in initial Course access, enrollment, navigation, and content concerns.
